The new season 2021-22 will kick start in June 2021 with a Delhi Cup, a knock-out competition, open to all affiliated clubs of the association, followed by C-Division League.

The association suspended all its activities on 15th March 2020 due to pandemic and thus exactly after a year local competitions will be resumed in Delhi following covid-19 protocols.

In the Executive Committee meeting, which took place on Sunday, it was also decided to hold selection trials for Sub-Junior Girls (Under-15) Delhi state team from February 20 in order to start the preparation for National Sub-Junior Championship as girls from this competition will be scouted to be part of India U17 Women’s team which would play in FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2022, India.

Shaji Prabhakaran, President Football Delhi, said it was important to resume football activities following all Covid-19 protocols and safety measures.

“It would be a celebration time when we resume our activities on the pitch as players, more than anyone else will be the happiest lot to be back on the pitch with excitement, energy, fun and performance,” said Prabhakaran.

He also urged everyone to come together and make a new beginning by encouraging children to play football everywhere and create new opportunities for the growth of football in the Capital City.

ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC last played each other on December 21 and the former came out victorious 1-0. The deciding goal was a scintillating strike by David Williams in the 33rd minute of the game. Both the teams were pretty close in terms of the number of shots they took at each other with BFC just edging ATKMB but the Green and Maroon Brigade had one more shot on target than Bengaluru.

Ahead of the match, BFC interim coach Naushad Moosa stressed on the need for his side to stay compact. “The way Bagan is playing, they have been scoring even after conceding and that is one thing we have to be careful (about). We have to be more compact. It won’t be an easy match,” he said. “First (thing) is not to concede goals as we know we can score anytime. With Sunil (Chhetri), Cleiton Silva, anything can happen,”

ATK Mohun Bagan are comfortably sitting in second position and are three points behind leaders Mumbai City FC. A win will put them on par with the Islanders. However, coach Antonio Habas prefers to take each game at a time. “The aim is to be in the playoffs mathematically and then be in the 1st position. And after that semi-finals and then in the final, if possible. We are going to go match by match and day by day,” said Habas. “The Bengaluru match is just another game. The team is continuing to do well in defense. We are improving in attack and this is important for us.”

MELBOURNE: Briton Johanna Konta said she was in shock after an abdominal injury abruptly ended her Australian Open challenge in the first-round on Tuesday even though she was leading Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 6-4 0-2.

Konta, seeded 13th at Melbourne Park, left the court for a medical timeout to get treatment on her abdomen when serving at 5-4 in the opening set.

“I pulled my ab and that made it difficult for me to serve and that is why I had to retire,” Konta, 29, told reporters.

“I feel like I am in a bit of shock so I don’t fully know yet anything. I haven’t yet been able to check in with the physios.”

Konta, ranked 15th in the world, said she felt the injury for the first time during her second service game and then it started getting painful.

“I tried to just manage it the best I could but in the last service game of the first set, that is where I needed to intervene with the physios to try and offload it with tape and stuff like that,” added Konta.

Konta came back to serve out the set but continued to struggle and lost the first two games of the second set before deciding she was unable to continue.
